Hi guys, new to the forum here.
I'm trying to do as much research as I can before going ahead and buying a 05/06 zx6r. I've fell in love with the 05/06 zx6rs but have no idea what to look for when inspecting one. Are there places that commonly become scratched, rusted, become lose, degrades in quality, etc on the bike??
Also, are there major issues of concern with the 05/06 zx6rs (for example, I've read that the k6/k7 gixxer 600s commonly have a problem with their charging unit - stator/rec/reg)???
Thanks guys

Umm I would deff ask about whether or not there is a problem with it cutting out randomly. If there isnt a problem with it and you end up buying one put some heatshield on the undertail to protect the ECU from the heat of the exhaust. That was one problem I ran into with mine when I bought it (thought it was the fuel pump) ended up having to replace the ECU but it hasnt given me a problem since. What happens is the heat from the exhaust shorts out the ecu. But as long as you protect it you shouldn't have any problems. That is the only issues at all that I know of with the 05 636. Some say the ecu issue may just have been a bad batch of ecus so you may not have the problem but better safe than sorry.

I guess dhowton beat me to it. Yeah it will randomly shut off while riding. A common symptom is that you temp is somehow above everyone else's while riding together. say if they are riding at 200*, you'll probably be riding at about 214*. That was the major factor we have all came across, im in the process of getting another ecu/cdi. I got it from an 06 because somehow those didnt seem to have the problem, well at least according to in here, because only people that were having this problem and posted something about it had 05's. So yeah just something to have in mind, and make sure you ask him about it. and if its been dropped/tipped on its right side because that was a common factor we all had in common which probably caused the problem of it to randomly shutting off.

I had an '06 636 for 30 000km without any problems with about 10 trackdays in that, before I traded to an '08.

hahaha thanks guys for the tips much appreciated! yeah i've watched a lot of reviews on the 05/06 ninja and it is ranked at the very top by many.
It's an awesome bike, only thing that's a turn off is the digital tach. We'll see what the future will hold for me, I'm also still quite interested in the k6/7 gixxer 600s haha
thanks all!

lol dude! the digital tach is sick!! there was someone on this forum or kawiforums that was selling a mod taht you could change the color of the tach to anything you wanted. I wanted to get blue and white on mine but I lost the guys info... lol but I love my 636 I bought it with 12k and already have 30k on it. just keep the regular maintenance and a kawi will last forever its like a toyota or honda cept honda makes bikes. but anyways I love my 05 636 and not issues what so ever except things that were my blame like forgetting to lube my chain.... (I.E. just replaced perfectly good sprockets lol and almost got killed)

gsxr's are heavy bikes... i had one before and you can feel the difference in the weight between the bikes... and if your not going fast... a heavy bike isnt good especially in the canyons. the tach isnt my favorite thing either but thats replaceable unlike the weight. just my opinion

i have 26,xxx miles on my 05 636 and have'nt run into anything major.. only problem i have had was my fuel cap oxidized and i had to buy a new key set and ignition. other then replaceing sprockets and chains and the clutch for better stuff.. havent had problems out of it. Great bike. i can definetly attest to the fact that this bike will give a liter bike a run for its money through the twisties.

Just my opinion of course but I Love my digital tach. I don't see why people have an issue with it, I think it is cool and have had no problems seeing it. Again just my opinion.

ive heard a lot of people having problems with the 2nd gear engagement dogs wearing out quickly. just make sure it goes into 2nd fine and stays there, and you should be good.
